About Tom Powers
Tom Powers is a SAMS® Accredited Marine Surveyor (AMS®) who truly loves what he does. He specializes in sailboats and classic wooden boats, bringing a genuine passion for craftsmanship to every survey.
Tom’s journey to becoming a surveyor is pretty unique. For 25 years, he owned and ran a local restaurant, which gave him a great sense of business and customer service. But his real love was always the water. He officially turned that passion into a career in 2007, after graduating from the Chapman School of Seamanship.
He’s not just a surveyor who knows the rules; he’s lived the boating life himself. He’s spent countless hours sailing his own boats along the coast and has a real, hands-on understanding of what it takes to keep a vessel in top shape.
A New Hampshire native, Tom and his wife enjoy spending their winters down in sunny Florida. When he’s taking a break from work, he loves getting his hands dirty in the garden or simply spending quality time outdoors with his family and many grandchildren.
About Taylor Haas
For Taylor, a life on the water has always been a way of life, not just a career. Growing up in the heart of New Hampshire, he’s spent countless hours on the lakes with his family, making memories with his wife and their two daughters. This lifelong passion for boating led him to pursue a career in the marine industry, starting with his training at Mercury Marine’s school, where he graduated in 2008.
As a certified marine technician, Taylor spent years working hands-on with all kinds of vessels. His experience is incredibly diverse—from diagnosing complex engine and electrical issues to rigging new boats, repowering older vessels, and reconditioning and repairing fiberglass. He’s also helped manage a shop, where he handled service writing, invoicing, parts orders, and customer relations. He even worked as a captain for TowBoatUS, where he gained invaluable experience in vessel salvage and on-the-water support.
Now, as a SAMS® Surveyor Associate, he combines all of that technical knowledge and a genuine love for boating to provide comprehensive marine surveys. His goal is to provide clients with a comprehensive survey that gives them the peace of mind they need to make a confident decision about their vessel.
